Who runs this site?
I am a Japanese native and a huge Otaku living in Japan. I grew up watching anime and reading manga just like you.
Why did I create Otakulang?
While watching anime with English subtitles, I often realized that standard translations miss the deep nuance. Textbooks teach you “correct” Japanese, but they don’t teach you the “cool” lines your favorite characters use.
I created this site to bridge that gap. My goal is to explain:
- The “Vibe”: What the word really feels like to a Japanese listener.
- The Context: Why a character uses that specific word.
- The Safety: Whether you can use it in real life—or if it’s “Anime Only” (so you don’t embarrass yourself!).
